Oranges (Cara Cara) [C. McFarlin Family Farms]

$5.00

From: C. McFarlin Family Farms

Organic cara cara oranges from our farm in southern California.

Cara Cara oranges are a type of citrus fruit that is a natural cross between a Washington Navel and a Pink Grapefruit. They are named after the Venezuelan farm, “Hacienda de Cara Cara”, where they were first discovered in 1976. Cara Cara oranges are known for their sweet, slightly tangy flavor and their distinctive, reddish-pink flesh. The red color of the flesh is due to the presence of lycopene, a pigment that is also found in tomatoes. Cara Cara oranges are typically harvested in the winter and early spring, and are used in a variety of ways, including as a snack fruit, in juices and other beverages, and in recipes such as salads and baked goods. They are a good source of vitamin C and other nutrients.
